Code of Conduct

Players are required to be on their best behaviour and play within the Royal and Ancient Golf rules, displaying etiquette at the highest possible standard.

Respect and Sportsmanship

  • Acting with Integrity: Following the rules, applying penalties, and being honest in all aspects of play.

  • Consideration for Others: Playing at a prompt pace, avoiding distractions, and looking out for the safety of others.

  • Warning Others: If a ball is hit in a direction where someone might be in danger, shout a warning like "fore".

Course Care

  • Repairing Damage: Repairing ball marks, replacing divots, and raking bunkers.

  • Avoiding Unnecessary Damage: Not causing damage to the course.

Conduct on the Course

  • No Offensive Language or Misbehavior: Refraining from using vulgar or offensive language, abusing clubs, or engaging in disruptive behavior. 

  • No Distractions: Avoiding actions that deliberately distract other players while they are making strokes. 

  • Following Local Rules: Adhering to any specific local rules or regulations of the course. 

Dress Code and other Regulations

  • Following Club Rules: Adhering to the club's dress code and other policies.

  • No Unauthorized Use of Devices: Avoiding the use of electronic devices (like cell phones) without permission.
